The Mahmoud Fathalla Lecture honours individuals who have made outstanding contributions to the advancement of women’s health, rights and dignity, particularly within resource-limited settings.
In the 2025 keynote lecture, Dr Sima Samar – Nobel Peace Prize nominee and internationally recognised human rights advocate – addresses the pervasive issue of violence against women. Drawing upon her extensive experience as Chair of the Afghanistan Independent Human Rights Commission, Dr Samar offers a compelling analysis of the structural, cultural and political factors that perpetuate gender-based violence, as well as the critical importance of accountability, advocacy and education in driving sustainable change.
