"The big picture" is the culminating module of the Leadership Empowerment Series, designed to help emerging health leaders move beyond individual clinical practice to engage with the global systems that shape maternal, newborn and sexual and reproductive health outcomes.

Led by Prof Bo Jacobsson, the module uses preterm birth as a case study to illustrate the limits of medical interventions alone and the need for integrated strategies combining clinical care, public health, research, policy engagement and advocacy. Participants explore the global maternal health architecture, including the roles of FIGO, WHO, UNFPA and PMNCH, and learn how technical, programme and advocacy work intersect to drive sustainable impact.

Emphasising collaboration across professions, sectors and regions, the module encourages participants to recognise their role as health leadership champions, contribute their voices in global forums, and help shape evidence-based, system-level solutions that improve outcomes for women, newborns and communities worldwide.
