Mentoring is a powerful catalyst for professional growth. In dynamic clinical and professional environments, structured mentoring relationships help emerging leaders navigate challenges, build confidence and develop new skills.

In this session, Prof Blami Dao presents mentoring as a collaborative, relationship-driven process grounded in empathy, partnership and shared responsibility. He draws on examples from FIGO and affiliated member societies to demonstrate how mentoring strengthens both individual careers and broader professional communities.

This module introduces practical mentoring models that guide participants through critical stages, including goal setting, negotiation, active engagement, feedback, evaluation and closure. Emphasis is placed on clear expectations, accountability, and purposeful, time-bound interactions to maximize learning and professional development. Learners will also explore the responsibilities of mentors and mentees, focusing on effective communication, reflective practice, and delivering constructive feedback to foster clinical skills, leadership and networking.

Finally, the session addresses common challenges in establishing mentoring programs in professional societies and offers practical strategies to overcome them. By the conclusion, participants will be equipped to cultivate meaningful mentoring relationships, contribute to professional mentoring initiatives, and support long-term leadership and growth in women's health.
